Biography

Meet Trees and Bryan

Owners & Founders of Hoonah Matata Retreat Lodge

Hello, we are Bryan and Trees Holland. We spent the past five years living on a sailing catamaran. In 2022 we sailed her up the inside passage and discovered Alaska. We spent that summer anchoring in spectacular, secluded anchorages, winding our way through fjords full of whale, seal, otters and fish. We loved it so much we came back the next summer. We invited friends and family to share in the wonder, beauty and discovery of Alaska. It captured our hearts. In 2023 we found ourselves in Hoonah doing a major boat repair.

From the moment we set foot on the soil of Hoonah we felt the energy of a very special space. As opportunity arose, we purchased a cabin and a lodge with the intent of sharing what we love about Alaska in a transformative environment.

The Tlingit people who live here let us all harvest from their traditional lands. We are ever grateful for their grace and goodwill. Their culture practices such care in the way the land is used, and they practice a spirit of wealth through giving that should be the envy of every American." - Mark Browning

Bryan and Trees have been partners for nearly 40 years. They have raised four amazing kids, shared a real estate business, sailed the seas on our catamaran and served on the board and as retreat leaders for a non-profit in Africa.
