What to Bring to the Retreat
THE BASICS TO A SUCCESSFUL EXPERIENCE
Your Everyday Essentials
The Basics
Comfortable Clothes
Pack for an Alaskan summer. It will be cool (50-60's) in the day and cold (40's) at night. Layers work best, easy to add to stay warm or remove to cool down. Bring a warm jacket and rain gear. Lightweight waterproof rain jacket and pants are available on Amazon at a low cost. You may want a beanie, warm socks, and gloves for windy boat rides. And don't forget your warm pajamas and slippers.
Comfortable Shoes
We recommend comfortable, preferably waterproof hiking boots. The hiking terrain is often uneven, and boots will add stability as well as warmth should it rain. Bring warm house slippers, boots will be removed in the lodge.
Your Favorite Water Bottle & Snacks
Having your own water bottle at hand will encourage you to keep up the fluids and stay feeling fresh and hydrated throughout. Staying hydrated during a retreat is key, as the processes and activities involved can be thirsty work! Feel free to bring your favorite snacks to have in between scheduled meals. Hoonah offers a small grocery store if you want to buy them there.
Toiletries
Bring your own personal essentials. The lodge will provide shampoo, conditioner, and body wash for the shower as well as daily clean towels.
Your Retreat Essentials
Retreat Specific
Good Book and a Journal
Our retreats have some down time for you to sink your teeth into your favorite read. Alternatively, you could pick out a new book just for this retreat. We will have a few good ones in our library too.
We recommend bringing a journal and favorite pens on your retreat so that you can make notes of anything you learn along the way. You may also feel a rush of creative energy to write, scribble, and make notes, so it's always good to have one packed just in case. It's also a lovely opportunity for you to make notes of your retreat experience so you can look back on your time and remind yourself of the transformation, intentions, or goals you want to work towards.
Retreat Equipment
Hoonah Matata Lodge will provide outdoor chairs to sit on the deck or around the fire pit. We will provide yoga mats, pillows or zero gravity chairs for meditation, sound baths and coach instruction. If you have a favorite pillow or yoga mat, please feel free to bring your own.
An Open Mind
Aside from the comfortable clothes and personal toiletries, an essential to bring with you is an open mind. A retreat is all about mind, body, and spirit. You can expect personal growth and reflection, so come ready to receive and let our retreat do the rest! This is your time to open to nature, feel her healing power and learn how to use it wherever you live.

Alaska isn’t about who you were when you headed this way. It’s about who you become.
